Introduction to Year 5

Hello! Welcome back. Hopefully everybody a pleasant break and the children are looking forward to the term ahead of them.

This term our book is going to be ‘Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls’ by Elena Favilli. This is a superb work on non-fiction that tells the story of many famous – and not so famous – female role models throughout history. The children will get a lot out of it. We will use this book as a stepping stone for learning about some of those significant figures in greater detail, including Boudicca and Emiline Pankhurst.

Thank you very much to those of you who are hearing the children read at home and are filling in the reading logs online. It does make a huge difference to the children’s learning so it would be brilliant if every child had the opportunity to read at home a few times a week.

PE this half term will be Tuesday and Thursday, as the Mr Morgan will be taking the class again this half term.. As always, the children can continue to come into school in their PE kit on this day. We will be doing tag-Rugby and we will be going outside so their PE kit will need to be appropriate for outside. Obviously that includes a sun hat and a drink if necessary.

The in-Harmony sessions will continue on a Friday morning. It is great to see so many children taking their instruments home but please make sure they are in school on a Friday. It is very difficult for them to have a music lesson without the instrument (we do try though!)

Thank you so much to those of you who support your child’s musical education by allowing them to attend Area Band. It is a lovely weekly session and I am always impressed by how well the children are doing.

Thank you so much do those who continue to support the children’s learning by working with them at home.

We will be setting regular My Maths homework as well. Again, we will make sure that copies of the login details go home in case anybody has forgotten!

The children also have a login for ‘Times Tables Rock Stars’ which is proving to be very popular.

We can both be found at the Year 5 exit every home time. Please come and see us if you have any questions, queries or just want to say hello!
