Year 5
Welcome to Year 5
Our Dovecote Curriculum is driven by the need to prepare our children for lifelong learning. At Dovecote, we offer a rich and vibrant curriculum, built on solid foundations, which is engaging, challenging and accessible to all. Through this curriculum, we develop the essential knowledge, skills and understanding that are the building blocks for later life.
Reading is at the heart of our themed curriculum approach, providing all children with the opportunity to experience and explore a wide range of high-quality books from nursery to year six. Books have been chosen very carefully to ensure there is an appropriate amount of challenge and complexity. We also strive to provide children with opportunities to see themselves within the literature that they experience, and thus, books are selected carefully to reflect the multicultural and diverse community around us.
Children will do many exciting activities around these books each term๐
The books your child will be exploring this year are:
Please help and support your child at home by taking an interest in which books they are exploring in school. They will also come home with a reading book of their choice and one which is matched to their reading level.
Please click on the year group Termly Newsletter link, which will provide much more information about what is happening each term. If you have any questions, please pop down and see us or email us. We are all happy to help!๐

HOME LEARNING
Daily reading is essential to your child’s success and confidence in their learning. This can be individual reading, reading to an older sibling or adult and also playing reading games. Encourage your child to bring their reading book and diary to school each day so that they can practice as often as possible.
Please encourage your child to practice their weekly spellings. They can have fun with the Spelling Shed games online or use pen and paper which ever they prefer.
MyMaths tasks are online to complete, as well as Numbots and Times Tables Rock Stars. These have been chosen by staff at Dovecote to develop your child’s number fluency and confidence.
See or email your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
