Gardening

Joy Mitchell.

Joy Mitchell took over leading the Garden Project at Dovecote in April 2019 after Anna Bond left to spend more time with her family following her recent maternity leave.

Mrs Mitchell has a degree in Horticulture with a specialism in the social and therapeutic benefits of spending time in the garden. She works with selected groups of children every Tuesday, all year round.

The children learn how to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers, and take part in a range of nature-based activities. The fruit and vegetables are often tasted during the sessions, or used within school lunches. Gardening is very popular with the children, as well as learning to grow food, they become more aware of the environment and the importance of wildlife.
