Welcome to Dovecote Nursery
At Dovecote our intention is to provide the best start to the children’s education. They are at the centre of everything we do and we want the best possible outcomes for each individual child so that:
- The children are safe, happy, feel valued and special. Each child, their individuality and what makes them unique is celebrated by all adults and children to build respect, relationships and understanding.
- The children develop resilience, confidence, independence, resourcefulness, self-motivation and an ability to problem solve, so that they can interact with the world around them and are prepared for life in modern Britain.
- The children are excited to come to school, their learning is enjoyable, builds upon curiosity and their interests.
- Children are confident, have a good sense of self, build strong friendships and are kind.
What do we provide?
- Nursery places for children aged 3 and 4 years old. Children can begin with us after their 3rd birthday.
- A stimulating and engaging environment that challenges children to develop their independence, follow their own interests and master many skills!
- A full and balanced play-based curriculum, that meets the needs of the child as well as preparing them for their next stage of education for when they move up to Reception.
- Experienced, friendly and nurturing staff, who are in tune with your child’s needs and developmental stage, to help them reach their potential.

HOME LEARNING
There are lots of ways that you can support your child’s learning at home. The most simple one is to talk! Children learn so much from having conversations: not just speaking and communication skills but listening skills too! You will also be helping them to broaden their vocabulary by learning words in a meaningful way. Here are some other things you can be doing at home:
- Share stories. This is one of the most powerful things you can do to help your child at the start of their reading journey. Children who are read to usually go on to enjoy reading themselves.
- Encourage your child to become independent. Ask them to help put some of their clothes on. Start with simple things and work your way up as they become more confident. Ask them to help with other things too: involve them in tidying up some of their toys. It can be a game – who can tidy their pile away first? Give them a smaller pile so that they win!
- Play games and do activities that involve taking turns and sharing. This could be specific games activities or it could be in other play activities. For example, when colouring together, ask your child if you can borrow their crayon or offer yours to them.
- Enjoy exploring outside together – and talk lots about what you see and do!
